On Saturday, 5 April 2025, a major fire broke out at the Gerstube manufacturing site in Vic-Fezensac, southwestern France. The fire caused extensive damage to the facility, which is responsible for producing all of MUDMASKY’s signature cosmetic tubes distributed across Europe.
The fire began around 11:45 in the morning, with thick black smoke visible up to 30 kilometres away. Approximately 100 firefighters from 14 fire stations in the Gers region responded swiftly. Due to the presence of potentially hazardous substances, chemical safety specialists were also deployed on-site.
Around 6,000 square metres of the industrial facility, including Gerstube’s primary production hall, were destroyed. Fortunately, there were no injuries reported, as the plant was not operational at the time. By the afternoon, the fire was under control, but firefighting and cooling operations continued into the evening. Local authorities confirmed that drinking water has not been contaminated and that initial tests on air and non-potable water show no threat to public health. Environmental monitoring is ongoing.
Established in 1947, Gerstube employs over 70 people and plays a significant role in the regional economy. The incident has had a strong emotional and economic impact on the local community in Vic-Fezensac.
At MUDMASKY, the effects are felt immediately. All of our tubes, recognisable by their clean design, functionality, and premium feel, are manufactured exclusively at Gerstube. This includes every tube sold within the European Union and surrounding countries.
Our decision to work with Gerstube was a conscious one. Although European tube manufacturing is significantly more expensive than producing in Asia – particularly China, where costs are around one-third – we have always prioritised quality, craftsmanship, and fair labour conditions. Supporting the European economy, maintaining close partnerships, and ensuring a lower carbon footprint have been key values since the beginning of MUDMASKY.
As production is now halted indefinitely, we are actively looking into alternative solutions. However, delays in stock replenishment across Europe are likely in the coming months.
All MUDMASKY products will remain available for purchase on MUDMASKY.EU until they are marked as “SOLD OUT”. We will keep our European customers informed with regular updates and remain fully committed to transparency during this challenging time.
We thank you for your ongoing support and understanding.
