Have you ever had the feeling that your skin is so dry and tight, but at the same time looks so greasy? Well, in this case we are in the same boat. Recently, I noticed that my skin was starting to act up. I wondered why that was, so I did some research and came across a few facts that might help a lot of people.
Here’s why your skin looks oily but is actually dehydrated. You’ll find out how I identified my oily, dehydrated skin and get some tips to help you on your way to dehydrated skin.
HOW I RECOGNISED MY OILY, DEHYDRATED SKIN.
I’ve always had combination skin type. I have an oily T-zone and normal to dry skin on the rest of my face. A few days ago, my skin felt much more tight and dry than usual. This feeling got to the point where I felt very uncomfortable speaking and making facial expressions. When I looked in the mirror, I noticed that the skin around my nose and cheeks had become very dry and rough. The strange thing was that it also looked greasy at the same time.
HOW YOU CAN TELL IF YOU HAVE OILY, DEHYDRATED SKIN.
HERE ARE THE 5 MOST IMPORTANT SIGNS:
1. your face feels particularly dry after cleansing.
2. around lunchtime, your skin looks oily but feels plump and dry.
3. even after exfoliation, your make-up sets.
4. you have dull skin, darker dark circles and a particularly oily T-zone.
5. your lips are dry, even in summer.
OILY SKIN CAN ACTUALLY BE DEHYDRATED
Believe it or not, oily skin can actually be dehydrated. You may think that if your skin looks oily, it has enough moisture, maybe even too much of it. However, this is not always the case. When your skin is dehydrated, it produces emergency oil to protect its skin. This means that the top layer of skin has too little moisture and compensates by producing more oil.
Dehydration is a skin condition that can affect any skin type, even oily skin types. In summary, your skin’s moisture balance is out of whack.
CAUSES OF DEHYDRATION
Some factors that can cause your skin to become thirsty and dehydrated are:
You don’t drink enough water
Your diet (especially avoid sugar, caffeine and alcohol)
Air conditioning, the weather
Lack of sleep
Using the wrong
Skin care
Lifestyle choices
INGREDIENTS YOU SHOULD LOOK OUT FOR
Glycerin: This is one of the most effective moisturising ingredients. It increases the moisture content of the skin and relieves dryness. Glycerin helps the skin absorb moisture from the air and prevents water in the skin from evaporating.
Sodium hyaluronate: Sodium hyaluronate is a salt form of hyaluronic acid. Due to its molecular structure, it penetrates deep into the skin. This ensures an intensive supply of moisture beyond the skin’s surface. It improves dryness, replenishes the skin and gives it structure.
Soya lecithin and fructooligosaccharides: Soya lecithin draws water into the skin and fructooligosaccharides preserve the skin’s moisture. The Leave-me-on Summer Mask contains these ingredients as well as sodium hyaluronate and glycerin (see above). These are also suitable for oily, dehydrated skin.
The following ingredients are also very helpful for oily, dehydrated skin:
PENTAERYTHRITOL, BETA-GLUCAN AND PROPANEDIOL.
Remember not to use products that contain a lot of oil and alcohol on oily, dry skin. Using greasy products may temporarily relieve your skin’s dryness, but in the long run, you risk making your oily, dehydrated skin worse.

TRIGLYCERIDES, SODIUM PALMATE, STEARIC ACID AND STEARATE.
Tips to help you keep your skin moisturised
Do not exfoliate your skin too much, but gently and not too often. This can cause your skin to become thicker. It is recommended to exfoliate 1-2 times a week.
Use a cleanser that does not remove everything, but only removes the unnecessary debris from your skin.
It is important that your skin feels hydrated after cleansing. Using a pH balanced product such as Melting Mud Cleansing Mask will maintain and restore your skin’s natural moisture balance.
One of the most important tips is not to use functional serums at the same time, such as wrinkle care and pore care. This would interfere with each other as they have different goals for the skin. If you do want to use them together, try to use the products on different parts of your face where they are needed.
As for moisturiser, I recommend oil-free gel moisturisers. They moisturise the skin without making it greasy. The Leave-me-on Autumn Mask is a great example.
